I have a resident female humminbird who was born this summer in tree next door. Many hummingbirds do not survive their first winters, and that's not even considering a deep difficult freeze like we're having now! The first snow day I stayed home, I brought the hummingbird nectar feeder indoors every 2 hours to thaw it. But then I needed a way to keep it thawed when I went back to work.
I went to the local hardware store, purchased a heat bulb, clamp lamp and outdoor extension cord to rig up the feeder warmer.
My little hummie friend sits on the feeder all day long, keeping warm and sipping the sweet life-sustaining nectar.
