Our rescue group, Pet Adoption Network has been working for two weeks to get 4 8-week-old Australian Cattle Dog puppies out of Texas. Their journey started in Midland -- with ground transport to Austin; then to Houston. The pups are orphans, and Texas has so many homeless dogs that we try to help them out once in awhile -- but don't have a lot of foster homes for adult dogs, so we agreed to take these puppies. The cost of their flight and health certificates was donated by other cattle dog owners from throughout the United States. These pups were supposed to arrive on a Continental flight about 6:00 on Saturday; the flight was cancelled. They rescheduled for the same time flight on Sunday -- the pups were checked in at the airport; due to weather and delay concerns, Continental held them over in Houston on Sunday night. Today, they made it onto the plane, but the flight was diverted to Eugene. Continental tells us the puppies are safe, (along with a kitten and a piglet!) while on the ground there. The decision will be made to continue to Portland once weather permits or turn around and come back to Houston. The Continental rep says the pups are still their responsibility until they're delivered to our volunteer in Portland. So if they end up back in Houston, they'd be kenneled until they can be transported to Portland. We're hoping that they instead get to Portland & find loving "forever" homes instead!
