A usual Christmas day in the Zeisler household was spent lounging about the family room after an early morning spent tearing through mounds of presents. This year there had already been days of lounging and cabin fever has set in, with almost two feet of snow outside it was only natural that an outdoor activity was needed.
When one brother suggested building a snow fort, it didn't take long before an idea took shape in the minds of the family. With just a couple of household plastic containers, a shovel and a lot of determination the 2008 Zeisler Igloo was born.
There were times in the creation process they didn't believe they'd be able to finish the project, and even when Christmas day brought down another thick blanket of snow, this family of builders persevered through the snow and by nightfall, through the rain.
When the final block was placed on the roof, and the tunnel door completed, they stood back to admire their work. One brother felt it was worthy of sleeping in that night and tunneled in with his mummy sleeping bag and snow jacket. He lasted until 1:00 am before the cold drove him inside.
Long after the snow melts off the roofs of the houses, and the streets are clear, the 2008 Igloo will live on in the backyard and even after the final block has melted, it will live on in the hearts of this family; as a once in a lifetime Christmas day opportunity.
