The roof over McCuddy's marina began to collapse Sunday, December 21st due to heavy snow fall. The roof was not swept or raked, so the buildup of snow and ice became too much for the structure so it began to collapse onto the boats stored below, sinking nearly a dozen if not more.
Owners were never notified, so they had to hear about the disaster via the news, and some even had the unfortunate luck of hearing of it on Christmas Day. Many boat owners still do not know that their boats are in danger or have been sunk. Boat owners have a special relationship with their crafts and many of the boats in this marina were classics in the midst of being restored. It is a very sad situation and you can feel the dread when you walk down to view the carnage.
