It was love at first sight. Now a 5 year boy and 11 month old dog will have a friend for life. The dog "Jax" came to the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society in November 2008 because his owner had passed away. At the shelter he made many friends both 2 and 4 legged. The New Year has brought new hope in the form of a home for Jax, and his canine friend Marley. Both homeless dogs won the hearts of a little boy and his grandparents. Pictures are worth a thousand words, just look at the love on Jax's face when the little boy hugs him. Pure joy! With all the horrible stories in the news about pitbulls, I wanted to share a happy story about the breed, the love they have to share and what unconditional love looks like. There are no bad dogs, there are untrained dogs and bad dog owners. This picture was sent to us along with it's caption from the adopter and grandmother of the little boy to use and promote animal adoption!
Homeless no more!

Never judge a dog by the breed. Judge a dog by the dog.

The pit bulls I have seen that cause problems at dog parks are always the ones recently adopted from a shelter. Be very careful with this dog, and never let your child play with it alone. You could lose your child.

This picture is wonderful. I don't see a Pit Bull and politics....I see a boy who loves his dog and a dog who loves his boy. Thank you for posting such a heartwarming photo. Dogs are truly amazing.

such a sweet pic. and Tixon, you're an idoit. I am a pit bull owner and I have always said that Dogs are just like people, they become what we make them. If you mistreat either they will turn on you. This is a sweet story and a happy ending.

When authorities who are given their job to serve the people, finely get a brain thought about where the blame should be placed. On the owners of the dog in question. The dog looks up to humans for their expected behavior, trying to please. Good dogs

Thank you for telling the truth. For each posting that comments on training and ownership, well, some adults still can't own up to their actions and animals follow instinct. Congratulations and lots of love to this new family.

'There are no bad dogs, there are untrained dogs and bad dog owners'. Very true statement.. Tixon Ticonderogo, I supose that this is your answer to everything - kill it?

Such a sad comment must have nothing else to do Tixon get a life. I can't believe that comment was deemed appropriate for posting.

By my parents adopting Jax it gives my son the companionship that every child deserves. People are afraid of what they can't see and in this case it would be the true beauty and loyalty of a properly trained pit bull.

Should of killed the dog and someone should take this kid away from these idiot grandparents for even thinking this was a good idea.

It is up to us to repair the damage done to the Pit Bull reputation. Thank you for helping change a stigma about a breed that needs it the most!

What a heart warming story! I have an American Pitbull Terrier and he has so much love to give! It just breaks my heart when I see so much bad media about this breed. Congratulations to Jax and his new found family. I wish the best for them all.

Finally, someone tells us a good story about Pit Bull's I agree 100% that it is lack of training and bad owners that provoke the image of the Pit Bull being mean and aggressive. It's funny how we do not see any stories of other dog attacks.
