While at Timberline Lodge I overheard that Mike Leming was being rescued off Mt. Hood today. Mike is a member of the Portland Mountain Rescue, in fact, I heard he was at the scene of the May 31, 2002 helicopter crash - same vicinity as today's accident. How ironic that he is now involved in a rescue mission for himself. We heard that Mike was scaling the mountain when a large chunk of ice knocked him resulting in possibly breaking both his ankles. These shots were taken as I observed the helicopter leave the scene on Jan 17th 3:31pm from a picture window in the Blue Ox bar of Timberline Lodge. It appeared to take a long time for the rescue and since we had just finished skiing we know east winds were very strong on top of the mountain, surely making more difficult for an air rescue.
