As a retired bait shop owner and part time guide I was on the bay last fall doing some crabbing. While the traps soaked I trolled a plug cut herring in case there was a lonesome hog lying around. I then thought I had snagged a log on the bottom by the coast guard station and prepared to break the line but suddenly it started to pull back. Since I was alone in the boat due to my fishing partner having to work I was suddenly in trouble. I worked that fish for a long time to tire it so I could net it by myself but by the time I drifted to the ghost hole he was still pretty strong so I decided to try to net him anyway before I got into the very shallow water. It was not a pretty landing but I got him aboard and he turned out to be in the mid 40# range. I am 6'5" and 300+# so he does not look that big beside me. Behind me is my guide boat. I then pulled my traps and had a full limit of crabs. That was a long day by the time I was able to clean all the bounty.

For many years I fished Tillamook Bay , the jaws and the bar. While I was successful, there were many a time where I was "surprised" by the hogs (and hogs they were!). Isn't that what fishing is all about? Dann MY BOAT WAS CALLED FISH TALES!!
