"Hello Americans, I'm Scott Killion. You know what the news is, in a minute, you're going to hear...the rest of the story."
A trusted, loved, respected, informative. educational and honored friend of mine, (possibly yours) and millions of other Americans passed away Saturday, the 28th of February 2009, at the age of 90 and joined his wife "Angel" in Heaven.
The ABC Networks brought him to national radio audiences for over 50 years on over 1000 radio stations.
Among his incredible list of honors, the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Honor, bestowed upon him in 2005 by President George W. Bush.
I met my friend 38 years ago at the age of seven, while listening to "KVAS" on the wonderful new Transistor Radio I purchased with money (mostly tips) I saved from delivering "The Daily Astorian," cutting grass, doing chores around the house and my weekly allowance given to me by my Loving parents.
While listening to my friend, I learned about the War in Nam, Watergate, how wonderful "Neutrogena" is, the "Energy Crisis and Gas shortage in the 70's" and while in High School, I learned a new word from my friend. The word… "Reaganomics."
My friend’s voice has been a constant in my life since I first heard his voice and continued to educate and entertain me until he passed.
One radio show of my late friend that sticks in my mind is a riddle he eloquently spoke about and...to his surprise, more Kindergartners (85%) knew the correct answer than seniors (20%) in Ivy League Colleges.
Here is the Riddle:
"What is... Greater than God. More evil than the devil. The poor have it. The rich do not need it and if you eat it, you' will die"
The answer is…
"N O T H I N G!”
"Nothing" is greater than God.
"Nothing" is more evil than the devil.
"Nothing" is one thing the poor have.
"Nothing" is what the rich need.
"Nothing" will kill you when eaten.
"Scott Killion... Page two…"
The friend I am speaking of is...
"Paul Harvey" who millions of Americans will greatly miss!
May God bless you Paul, your family and may you rest In eternal peace with your beloved wife, "Angel" and let us never forget our friend and now an Angel, "Paul Harvey" whom we gladly welcomed into our homes for over 50 years.
"Now you know... the rest of the story.
Scott Killion... Good Day!"
