"The Shrunken Head of Panco Villa"

From May 8 to 30, 2009, Miracle Theatre Group is pleased to present “The Shrunken Head of Pancho Villa”, a comedy written by Luis Valdez, directed by Olga Sanchez and sponsored by El Hispanic News.

From the earliest days of Chicano theatre comes this raucous and unpredictable satire in which a sellout son returns home with a grand scheme to move his family out of the barrio and into the American dream. But will a seductive nostalgia for Mexico’s revolutionary past overwhelm his efforts? That’s when the head begins to talk …

A Sunday Scholar Series — “Seeds of Chicano Identity” — offers free post-play panel discussions after each Sunday matinee (see below for details).

“The Shrunken Head of Pancho Villa” (which is presented in English) plays May 8-30, 2009 at the Milagro Theatre (525 SE Stark St., Portland). Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20-$22 (only $16 for students and senior citizens) from 503-236-7253 or www.milagro.org. There is one preview performance at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2009; all preview tickets are only $14. The complimentary post-play reception on opening night is sponsored by La Casita.
