Fire at Southwest Murray Scholls Drive. A transformer blew knocking out power to the surrounding area and backing traffic up for a couple miles in each direction.

Transformer Fire in Beaverton

At about 2:30pm, the power at my girlfriend's apartment went out. Not long after, we could see a huge billowing smoke cloud coming from the Murray Scholls complex. The transformer grid behind the complex had blown up, and people were streaming out of the complex in fear of the fire spreading to the Chevron gas station 500 feet away.

I live about 1/2 mile from where the transformer went up in smoke. I lost count of the number of sirens I heard headed out that way. Now I can see why there were so many. With a gas station that close by, I'd have been EXTREMELY nervous!
