Transformer Fire Knocks Out Power

At about 2:45 pm Sunday afternoon the power went out and a black pillar of smoke could be seen over the roofs. As I got closer flames could be seen from over a quarter mile away. Firefighters were already on the scene by the time I saw it about 10 minutes after power went out.

I got just across Scholls Ferry Rd from the fire as a Boy Scout came by on his scooter advising everyone to get away from under the power line, especially the high power ones that run right next to the power substation. The Police shut down Scholls Ferry Rd and blocked of a quarter mile radius around the area from pedestrian access.

Traffic was diverted onto Barrows Rd. The traffic heading east was force to turn onto Horizon had a line from there to the non-working light at the corner of Barrows & Horizon. The traffic was backed up as far as could be seen. And then backed up all the way back to Scholls Ferry Rd. Traffic lights were out a mile away, an indicator of how many people are affected.
