Friday 8-28-09 approx 1pm:
Luscombe aircraft came in to Sandy River
Airport too high on his approach. He had his
radio turned off and ground personnel tryed
to wave him off. Aircraft landed at far west
end of runway with a bounce and flipped over
beyond the end of the airstrip. A pilot and
passenger were on board and were able to
exit on their own. The pilot was 87 years of
age and reportedly had only a small cut.
The piot was refusing to be taken by ambulance for routine medical evaluation.
I think he was more worried about how his
wife was going to react.
The FAA was notified and immediately begain
a full crash site investigative report.
