Multnomah County removed the heavy-duty snow gates on Larch Mountain Road and reopened the road at milepost 10.
Every fall or winter, the county installs a gate to close the road, to reduce winter maintenance and the conditions are hazardous for safe passage.
The 14.5 mile winding Larch Mountain Road ends at Larch Mountain at the 3,940-foot elevation parking and day-use picnic grounds.
Larch Mountain day use area is also the Larch Mountain #441 and Oneonta #424 trailheads dropping nearly 4,000 feet into the Columbia River Gorge. Sherrard Point #443, a brief 0.3 mile trail leads to the 4,056-foot peak at Sherrard Point, a overlook with a spectacular panoramic view of the vast forest landscape and the Cascade peaks, such as Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Mt. Saint Helens. Larch Mountain day-use area is a use-fee area.
