I thought Katu should know about my experience this morning at CarToys Jantzen Beach.
Like many Portlander's I went through the adds yesterday. I chose CarToys as my early morning line. Even though it would be cold, wet and probably windy, on offer were free phones to the first 100 customers.
Being a fantastic Black Friday deal I decided to join the throngs in the early am. We could've gone to best buy for a great TV sale, but no, we chose CarToys.
I got up at 4am, stayed in line for 2 freezing and damp hours waiting for my chance for a free phone, remember, the add stated the first 100. I was very happy because I was 4th in line and sure to get my free phone.
When the doors finally opened, I was told that the price had changed from free to $149. This is blatantly deceptive. The store hadn't even put a poster in its window to let its freezing would be customers know. There was no retraction in the newspaper, even though I was told the add had been printed 2months prior but never pulled. They just pointed to the small print saying these prices could change at anytime.
Basically they couldn't care less that they'd truly inconvenienced me and others and lied. It's a horrible tactic to get people into their doors.
And finally, when we tried to call the CarToys corporate office, the phone number had been disconnected.
