Oh Please!...just give me the peanut
We have two squirrels that are our backyard guests.They come on a daily basis to eat. Both the female and male have become quite tame.
The male will climb up on our lap ,or our leg to get a peanut. The antics of squirrels is very amusing,but they can be quite the pests.
The male likes to bury his food in my plants and this creates a bit of dissension between us. I'm told they can be trained liked dogs,,, we are working on it...

Its very rare for squirrels to have rabies..They don't really bite.. the ones we have as guests anyways.. but the male does have very long claws and grabs.. and scratches in his excitement to get the food..My fly swatter is now the squirrel smacker

While amusing and fun, remember , They are still wild animals and as such don't let your guard down. They can also cary diseases that can be carried to your pets or to you. You don't want to get BIT! Use Gloves . And Remember Rabies shots are not fun

Wow, I tested it several times and every time I cracked one, "Sammy" would just sit and eat it. I thought they wouldn't bury them because they would rot without the shell and they wouldn't go back and unbury them later. My lesson for the day!

We shell the peanuts ,,and yes they will bury them without a shell on..It makes no diff to these squirrels..lol

Since we got our cat, my friend "Sammy the squirrel" won't come around! If you don't want your squirrels to bury the peanuts, crack the shell of the peanut a little bit. They will eat, but not bury, cracked nuts! Test it, it works!
