INDIANOLA, Iowa – A two-run home run by Linfield freshman Karleigh Prestianni (Fr., Grants Pass, Ore.) in the sixth inning vaulted the Wildcats to a 3-1 victory over St. Thomas (Minn.) Sunday in the NCAA Division III Indianola Regional Sunday at Simpson Softball Complex.
In a tense game that featured great defensive plays on both sides of the diamond, Prestianni’s landmark home run, her 18th of the season, broke a 1-all tie while setting the NCAA Division III single-season record for home runs. Her homer gave the Wildcats 73 for the season, breaking the old mark of 72 set by St. Thomas in 2006.
Linfield (38-5) enters the NCAA Finals riding a 24-game winning streak. The Wildcats beat St. Thomas for the second time in as many days.
